The Eastern Free State
The Eastern Free State has until recently remained the well guarded secret of a select few in South Africa, but the secret is out and this area is fast becoming a very busy tourist attraction. Next to Mpumalanga this area is probably becoming the fastest most popular motorcycle heaven for bikers coming from Gauteng and surrounding areas.
The Eastern Free State is easily accessible from Gauteng and can be reached within a comfortable three-hours ride, and as you will see the ride there can be very interesting.
The area boasts some of the most spectacular mountain ranges, including incredible views of the Maluti, Drakensberg and Rooiberg ranges. From the world famous Sandstone cliffs of the Brandwag buttress at Golden Gate to the views of the
nearby Drakensberg Amphitheatre, you will be awed by the spectacular beauty of the area. The roads in the area are mostly well maintained. Accommodation and restaurants are
plentiful and cater to everyone’s tastes. The Eastern Free State of late has also become a bit of a culture-vulture hangout, with the annual Cherry festival and Rustler’s Valley at Ficksburg.
